About the BNRC


Brandon Neighbourhood Renewal Corporation, as a non-profit organization, strives through advocacy, capacity building, provision of knowledge and sustainable funding from various sources to challenge and empower all citizens of the neighbourhood.

Through partnerships with a number of government agencies and community groups and organizations, the BNRC delivers meaningful programs that strengthen housing choices, improve recreational and leisure amenities, build economic opportunities, strengthen community potential, and create safe, attractive and inviting neighbourhoods. The BNRC is also a key partner in the delivery of housing programs throughout the City of Brandon.

The BNRC is funded through a partnership arrangement by the Province of Manitoba (via the Neighbourhoods Alive! Program) and the City of Brandon. Since the inception of the BNRC in 2000, the BNRC has successfully invested millions of dollars to Brandon's core residential neighbourhood.


The BNRC works in five key categories which are:

  1. Neighbourhood Capacity & Empowerment
  2. Housing & Homelessness
  3. Economic Development
  4. Crime and Safety
  5. Recreation, Arts, Leisure & Wellness

 

Board of Directors

The Brandon Neighbourhood Renewal Corporation By-Laws require the Board have not less than 10 and not more than 21 directors, consisting of:

  • 6 residential members, serving a two-year term, elected at the Annual General Meeting
  • up to 15 appointees from professional groups and organizations having an interest in the BNRC area

The current board members are:

Nancy McPherson
  • Nancy is a Brandon Regional Health Authority Volunteer and holds the position of Past Chair on the BNRC Board of Directors.
Leslie Allen
  • Leslie is a Westman Immigrant Services Appointee and holds the position of Chair on the BNRC Board of Directors.
Murray Hurl
  • Murray is Residential Appointee and holds the position of First-Vice Chair on the BNRC Board of Directors.
Tony Reid
  • Tony is Residential Appointee and holds the position of Second-Vice Chair on the BNRC Board of Directors.
Harley Grouette
  • Harley is Residential Appointee and holds the position of Secretary/Treasurer on the BNRC Board of Directors.
Roger Guy
  • Roger is a Community Futures Appointee.
Don Butler
  • Don is a MB League Individuals Disabilities Appointee.
Karla Dane
  • Karla is a Legal Appointee.
Gail Cullen
  • Gail is a Brandon Friendship Centre Appointee.
Keith Edmunds
  • Keith is a Residential Appointee.
Terry Tegg
  • Terry is a Housing Appointee.
Glen Kruck
  • Glen is a Brandon School Board Appointee.
Spring Tallant
  • Spring is a Residential Appointee.

The Brandon Neighbourhood Renewal Corporation has a number of initiatives completed, currently being undertaken and presently in the planning stages, to address its objectives of improving the quality of life in Brandon’s core residential neighbourhood.
